5-25-09 9:30 pm Fishing update Cape May co.,NJ

I headed out weakfishing to day at 7:00pm . The spot I fished is a  favorite wading location of a few avid anglers. Chuck, Harold, Chuck with the flounder and myself fished the last of the incoming tide. Blues, Flounder and herring were caught during the time I was there. I fished about an hour. Weakfish still have not shown up in Cape May co. with the exception of the ten  or so that have been caught, mostly by  guys fishing for stripers. Fishermen that are using clam as bait and fishing from the  surf continue to catch some beautiful striped bass. As Chuck has shown, the big striped bass will hit plugs that are fished correctly! The flounder bite`has slowed due to the over cast weather and the water temperature dropping to 54 degrees.flounder 025flounder 021

5-23-09 No Bones flounder tournament

]Congratulation to  the winners of the No bones Flounder tournament . Mike Hanson had a total 8.12  pounds for first place. He also was the Calcutta winner ,with a 6.07 flounder. Shakey was second with  total of 8.11. We had 8 keepers. Everyone I spoke with on the water had at lest one keeper. Fred and his staff did a great job with the tournament. The tournament must take a lot of work and preparation and a little luck with the weather. No bones hit the trifecta today. Grass sound Marina will be having a flounder tournament on July 11. flounder 017flounder 018

I made a quick loop of my core flounder area today. I found the water temperature 60-65.5 degrees. The flounder I caught was very cold. There is very cold water on the bottom. This explains why the flounder have not been on a heave feed. I did not see any other fishermen today.

I made` a  short trip scouting for flounder at  high tide. I was looking for a spot that they are feeding at this stage of the tide. I did not get a bump. The water temperature was 57 degrees and the water was clean. Later in the day I headed out weakfishing. I did not find any weakfish today. I was told by a friend fishing the spot that a 42″ striped bass was just dragged off the beach minutes before I arrived. He also said a 32 pound striper was caught early this morning.flounder 009flounder 010

I made a short scouting trip for flounder. I checked some spots that are close to my dock. The water temperature was 57 degrees. I was using the gulp  twister tail. I did not have one bump. If the water does not warm up by Saturday it will be tough to catch flounder with artificial bait. I am going to head back out fishing when the tide has ran out a little more. I am hoping to find some water at least 60 degrees. I am fishing No bones flounder tournament opening day so I will be scouting all week. I hope to have a better report later to nightflounder 007

Fishing report 4-15-09 Cape May co. NJ

I started out today at a  historically great weakfish spot. I caught two stripers and one blue fish, but no weakfish. I fished that spot until high tide. For the low tide I headed to Cape May point. I picked a spot that I have caught hundreds of weakfish. I fished two hours with white, chartreuse and pink lures. No hits. I spoke with an avid fisherman, that I know,  that has been fishing the area, he had not seen a weakfish this year, yet. There is plenty of big stripers around Cape May for those that fish with clam. I will try that spot again for weakfish when the water hits 60 degress and holds for three days.flounder

I headed out today in search of Mr. weakfish. The wind was right and the water temperature was 55 degrees. No weakies.  My son was out earlier in the morning striper fishing (in a secret spot of course) and caught two keepers, 30″ and 32″.  I did catch a nice flounder on a rubber bait. The flounder was so lethargic, it gave me time to take a picture before he took off.
